European Anti-Poverty Network

The European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN), founded in 1990, is a Brussels based independent network comprising 30 national networks of NGOs and grassroots groups and 23 European Organisations involved in the fight against poverty and social exclusion in the EU.

 EAPN is involved in a variety of activities aimed at combating poverty. These include monitoring the implementation of EU policy measures for combating poverty and social exclusion, promoting mutual exchange and responding to policy initiatives and developing own policy proposals drawing from the national expertise of its members, providing education, awareness-raising and training activities for national and local groups to engage with EU strategies to combat poverty, developing service provision and activities aimed at the participation and empowerment of people experiencing poverty and social exclusion. EAPN lobbies to put the fight against poverty high on the agenda of the EU and to promote a more equal and democratic EU, committed to reducing inequalities, poverty and social exclusion through a multidimensional integrated strategy that engages all stakeholders, including people experiencing poverty and their organisations, at a national and EU level.

EAPN´s National organisations in Hungary, Sweden, UK (Scotland), Poland and Portugal will bring the experience of their own anti-poverty work on the ground and their lobbying work at National level to help frame and inform the research on Income, Welfare and Social Protection. They will also help to develop and participate in the case studies, policy implications of project outcomes and dissemination. All the participants have carried out work on the relation between poverty and health inequalities, namely the Portuguese Anti-Poverty Network which has led a transnational project on health inequalities.
